Scott Boyd opens Winter Garden
campaign headquarters
- Winter Garden officials and residents show support -
Winter Garden, Florida – April 3,
2008 – Scott Boyd, candidate for Orange County Commission, District 1, opened his campaign headquarters in downtown
Winter Garden on Thursday, March 27 with the help of most of Winter Garden’s City Commission. Boyd was joined by
Mayor John Rees, Commissioners Colin Sharman, Harold Bouler and Bob Buchanan. All four endorsed Boyd’s candidacy
and called upon all of Winter Garden to support “Winter Garden’s own.”
Mayor John Rees opened the ceremony by stating
why he is supporting Boyd. “I look at a person’s character, intelligence and ability to get out and work
hard. I look for someone who is deep rooted and worried about the community and who is going to do what is in
our best interest.”
Commissioner Bouler
addressed the crowd of Winter Garden residents and business owners who had come out to show their support. “I am
happy to endorse Scott Boyd. The criteria of a good candidate is how he reaches out to all of the community he
is going to represent. Scott Boyd has been to our meetings and he has talked to our residents,” states
Bouler. “He is going to represent all of the people, not just a select few; be they rich or poor and all in
between and that says something about his character!”
Commissioner Bob Buchanan added, “I’ve known
Scott’s family for years. He was raised with the same values that all of us consider important. Scott will
do the right thing, not only for Winter Garden, but for all of West Orange County.”
Commissioner Colin Sharman greeted the crowd and
showed his support of Scott Boyd. “When looking at a candidate I look at someone for what they’ll do and how
hard they will work. A year ago I saw how hard Scott worked for Steve Precourt’s campaign. He went door to
door and found out what is important to the people from West Orange County all the way to Osceola County,” states
Sharman. “He knows our issues and has met the people. Scott is going to work hard for us in West Orange
County and do the things we need to do. That is why I’m going to stand behind Scott Boyd.”
Boyd thanked his supporters and welcomed them to
visit his campaign headquarters as well as shared his priorities and reasons for seeking election for Orange County
Commission, District 1. “Once elected my goal will be to make fighting crime a much higher priority, and I will
vote to hold the line on taxes and make government live within its means. I will vote for a smart sensible
growth plan that protects our quality of life, while encouraging the protection of our environment and our future
water supply. I will support a transportation system that promotes connectivity and walk ability within our
communities. Lastly, I will defend the time honored American values we all believe in.”

Boyd closed the ceremony with the following
statement, “If the voters are looking for a “show horse,” I may not be their candidate. But if you’re looking
for a “work horse,” or someone who’s not afraid of hard work and who doesn’t care who gets the credit as long as the
job is getting done, then I am definitely your guy.”
